PRP Joint Pain Q & A

What is PRP?

PRP is a method of regenerative medicine that’s used to enhance your body’s natural healing process.

Your blood is primarily made up of a liquid called plasma and tiny solid components – red and white blood cells, and platelets. Platelets play a role in blood clotting, but they also contain growth factors that are advantageous for boosting your recovery, relieving your pain, and healing your injuries.

Platelet-rich plasma is plasma that contains more platelets than normal. PRP is achieved in a centrifugation process where growth factors are concentrated until they’re five to 10 times richer than they normally appear in your blood.

What does PRP treat?

Dr. Morgan provides PRP to treat:

  • Sprained or swollen joints
  • Injuries — from sports, work, or other
  • Arthritis

PRP is often used in the medical field during surgery to assist in the healing of tissues. PRP is often a complement to other treatment methods and makes an excellent alternative to surgery.

How does PRP work?

Dr. Morgan or your Lone Star health professional may use a mild anesthetic to numb your skin before drawing your blood from a vein in your arm and separating and concentrating the platelets with centrifugal force in the centrifugation machine.

After the centrifugation process, Dr. Morgan merges the concentrated platelets with the remaining blood before injecting the concentrated platelets into the injured area.

Following your treatment, you can return to your daily activities right away.

What are the benefits of PRP?

PRP offers many benefits and can be used to treat both chronic and acute injuries and a wide spectrum of conditions. PRP doesn’t involve medications or invasive surgery that can pose unwanted side effects.

PRP is often a more affordable option and remains a popular go-to treatment for many famous celebrities and athletes to get them back in the game or back on the red carpet sooner.

PRP is a quick and convenient lunch-time procedure that’s typically completed in around 30 minutes or less. The results are long-lasting, and your body doesn’t reject your own blood, making PRP therapy both effective and safe. Multiple treatments might be necessary for optimal results.
